CE-35327-0

Sony PlayStation

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

CE-35327-0 means your PlayStation inserted a disc but could not read or recognize it. This can happen with game discs, Blu-ray movies, and DVDs. It is usually caused by a dirty or scratched disc, or dust built up inside the disc reader.

Affected Models

  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 4 Slim
  • PlayStation 4 Pro
  • PlayStation 5

Common Causes

  • The disc has fingerprints, smudges, or dust on the readable surface
  • The disc is scratched and the laser cannot read the data correctly
  • Dust has built up inside the PS4/PS5 disc drive over time
  • The disc drive laser is worn out and losing sensitivity
  • The disc is from a different region than your PlayStation (region lock)

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the disc. Hold the disc by its edges and wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth from the center outward in straight lines. Never wipe in circles.

Fingerprints and smudges are the most common cause of unreadable discs. Cleaning takes 30 seconds and often fixes the problem immediately.

  2. Test another disc. Try a different game or movie disc. If other discs work fine, the problem is with that specific disc — not the console.

This tells you immediately whether the problem is the disc or the disc drive.

  3. Check the disc for deep scratches. Hold it up to a light source and look for circular scratches across the data surface. Light surface marks are often readable, but deep gouges are not.

A disc resurfacing service at game stores can sometimes recover scratched discs for a few dollars.

  4. Clean the inside of the disc drive with compressed air. Use a can of compressed air to blow a short burst into the disc slot opening. This clears dust from around the laser.

Do not insert cotton swabs into the slot — they can leave fibers on the laser lens.

  5. Restart the PS4 or PS5 and reinsert the disc slowly and completely. Make sure the disc is inserted label-side up (on PS4) or facing the correct direction.

The disc must be inserted all the way for the mechanism to pull it in correctly.

When to Call a Professional

If your PS4 or PS5 stops reading all discs consistently, the disc drive laser may have failed. Disc drive repairs typically cost $60 to $130 at a repair shop. Sony also offers an out-of-warranty repair service — check support.playstation.com for current pricing. If only one disc causes this error, the disc itself is likely the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can region-locked discs cause CE-35327-0?

PlayStation game discs are actually region-free — any PS4 or PS5 game disc will work on any console worldwide. However, Blu-ray movie discs and DVDs are region-locked. A movie disc from another region will not play and may show this error. Check the disc's region code (A, B, or C for Blu-ray) to confirm.

Can a scratched disc damage my PS4's disc drive?

No. A scratched disc cannot physically damage the drive's laser or mechanism. The worst that happens is the console tries to read it repeatedly and fails. Once you eject the disc, the drive is completely fine.

What is a disc resurfacing service?

Many game stores and pawn shops offer disc resurfacing. A machine gently buffs the bottom of the disc to remove shallow scratches. It does not fix deep gouges but can bring back discs that look scratched but are still mostly intact. It usually costs $2 to $5 per disc.
