4C

Samsung Washing Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The 4C error means your Samsung washer is not getting enough water. The machine started a cycle but water did not fill properly. This is usually caused by a closed tap or kinked hose. It is one of the most common — and easiest — Samsung washer errors to fix.

Affected Models

  • WF45R6100AW
  • WF50R8500AV
  • WF45T6000AW
  • WF42H5000AW
  • Most Samsung front-load and top-load washers

Common Causes

  • Water supply tap behind the washer is turned off or not fully open
  • Kinked or crushed water inlet hose blocking the flow
  • Clogged inlet hose filter screens (small mesh screens inside the hose connections)
  • Low water pressure from the home water supply
  • Faulty water inlet valve that is stuck closed or worn out

How to Fix It

  1. Check that both water supply taps behind the washer are fully open.

Turn each tap counterclockwise until it stops. A partially closed tap is a very common cause of 4C.

  2. Inspect the water inlet hoses for kinks or bends.

Pull the washer slightly away from the wall and straighten any bent hoses. Kinks block water flow entirely.

  3. Turn off the taps and disconnect the hoses to check the filter screens.

There are small mesh screens inside the hose connections at the back of the washer. Remove any debris with a toothbrush and rinse them clean.

  4. Reconnect the hoses, turn the taps back on, and restart the washer.

Start a new cycle and watch the drum. You should hear water filling within 30 seconds.

  5. If the 4C error returns, test your home water pressure.

Samsung washers need at least 20 PSI to fill properly. Very low water pressure can prevent filling even with everything else correct.

When to Call a Professional

If all hoses are clear, taps are open, and the error keeps coming back, the inlet valve is likely faulty. This is an internal part that requires disassembly to replace. Contact Samsung support or a licensed appliance technician. Expect repair costs of $120–$250 for an inlet valve replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 4C and 4E on a Samsung washer?

They mean the same thing — a water supply problem. 4C and 4E are the same error shown on different Samsung models. Newer models use 4C. Older models may show 4E instead. The causes and fixes are identical for both codes.

Can I run the washer with low water pressure?

No — the washer will keep stopping and showing 4C. Samsung washers require a minimum of 20 PSI water pressure. If your home pressure is consistently low, contact your water utility. A plumber can also install a pressure booster if needed.

How do I clean the inlet hose filter screens?

Turn off the water supply taps first. Unscrew the hose from the back of the washer. You will see a small mesh screen inside the opening. Pull it out carefully with needle-nose pliers, rinse it under the tap, and reinstall.
